The Dolores substation for the Montezuma County Sheriffs Office is well on its way to being complete, due to some dedicated volunteers.
The Dolores Southern Baptist Church is providing the volunteer labor as well as the building materials and office furniture needed for the substation.
Our churchs involvement is an expression of our gratitude for the sheriff departments presence and commitment, said Pastor Don Phillips. I think our society sometimes fails to fully appreciate the importance of our law enforcement community.
The remodeling project will benefit the sheriffs department by providing a permanent base of operation, and the town of Dolores will benefit from having a more visible and stable law enforcement presence.
I felt compelled to approach Sheriff Spruell to ask what our church might do to show our appreciation for the department, Phillips said. Unbeknownst to me, the decision to provide space for a substation had already been made by the town of Dolores before we got involved. Gods timing is always good.
A brainstorming session between Sheriff Dennis Spruell, Undersheriff Robin Cronk and Pastor Phillips soon followed, resulting in the churchs involvement.
The substations remodeling and furnishing should be done before the end of March with an open house to follow.
