In the words of owner Brian McCollaum, Unique Le Natural “does a little bit of everything.”
The six-year-old farm raises goats and uses their milk to produce soaps, lotions and shampoo bars. The farm also raises poultry, selling pastured chicken, ground turkey and eggs.
The byproduct of the goats and chickens is then used to grow the rest of the farm’s stock – it’s produce, which never touches manmade fertilizer or insecticide.
“We do all of our own soil amendments from our own animals, both our goats and our chickens,” McCollaum said. “We use our own manure to amend our soil to make it more productive.”
The farm is located just outside of Aztec, he said. “People typically frown upon having a herd of goats inside city limits.”
McCollaum said the farm has a simple mission.
“We’re trying to exemplify the microfarming idea: small batches of high quality product produced locally to be consumed locally,” he said. “We’re trying to do our best to create a positive impact. We’re not looking to make a fortune; we just want to do something good for people, for the Earth, and make a little money on the side.”
