More than 400 people attended a memorial service Monday for Marine Gunnery Sgt. Scott A. Koppenhafer, of Mancos, at the Cortez Elks Lodge. Koppenhafer died Aug. 10 in Iraq after suffering fatal wounds while supporting Iraqi Security Forces. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Taps was played as part of the military honors during the memorial service for U.S. Marine Scott A. Koppenhafer, of Mancos.
A rifle salute known as the three volleys was conducted in honor of Scott A. Koppenhafer, a Marine from Mancos who was killed while serving in Iraq.
