On Tuesday, the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office posted limited information concerning a drug bust on its new Facebook page.
After the Cortez Journal sought additional information — the person arrested, the charges filed, the street value of the drugs, investigation details, items confiscated and bond information — from Sheriff Dennis Spruell on the case via email, his agency posted this information to its social media site on Thursday morning.
According to the sheriff’s Facebook page, Ronald Pierce Wolfe, 38, was arrested on Monday and charged with unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of illegal narcotics and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
Both are felony charges.
Reports indicate five rifles, including an AR-15; approximately 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine; drug paraphernalia, including scales and baggies; and $231 in cash were seized from a residence on the 1200 block of Cottonwood as a result of the arrest.
Officials said a deputy received information of the alleged illegal activity at the Cottonwood residence, and surveillance was conducted, confirming the tip.
Officials report the drugs seized have a street value of approximately $4200.
Wolfe remains in custody on an undetermined amount of bail, according to the Facebook post.
The sheriff’s Facebook page was created June 11. In an email sent to community members announcing the new social media site, Spruell said, “Get the news firsthand then compare to the newspaper. I think you will be surprised.”
