Re-1 upgrades school security

New safety changes coming this year
Schools in Montezuma-Cortez School District Re-1 have undergone a series of security upgrades this summer. Enhancements included installation of more secure doors at Kemper Elementary School. These doors in the primary hallway are fire-rated, solid-core classroom doors that are almost 2-inches thick and have a much smaller window in them. They will be installed on steel door frames.
Another security upgrade installed at all Re-1 schools is the Raptor system. Visitors will have to submit their driver’s license at the front office, which will then perform a sort of background check, screening for sex offenders and notifying staff of child custody violations.
Elementary schools in Montezuma-Cortez School District Re-1 have undergone renovations as part of the district’s safety upgrades. New entryways and foyers will ensure that office staff can screen all school visitors – such as at Kemper Elementary, where the entrance is now in the front of the school, facing Montezuma Avenue.
