Montezuma County undersheriff Robin Cronk, reportedly under investigation for alleged misappropriation of funds, has left the department.
Sheriff Dennis Spruell confirmed Cronk's departure during the regular county commission meeting Monday. He said Deputy District Attorney Lynda Carter has accepted the position as undersheriff.
"She will be a big asset to the office, and as an attorney will give us good legal guidance on our cases," Spruell said.
He added that District Attorney Will Furse "will not be too pleased with the move, I'm sure."
Regarding the loss of Cronk Spruell, said, "He's more sorry than I am."
Cronk was placed on administrative leave June 18, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations was brought in to investigate. He has worked for the sheriff's office for four years.
The allegations surfaced when officials found discrepancies in a credit card report, Spruell said. As of press time, no criminal charges had been filed in the case.
