On its farewell tour, the popular Barbary Coast Dixieland Show Band will make its final appearance in Cortez on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for youths at the door. The band’s performance is sponsored by the SouthWest Colorado Concert Association, which continues to bring top-notch entertainment to the Cortez area year after year.
The music performed by the Dixieland Band stands on its own, but the popular Midwestern band also punctuates each concert with whim, wit and zany comedy.
Incredible vocals and a variety of special numbers are the seasoning to a well-blended performance. Since 1967, the band has set thousands of toes tapping at major night clubs, the Minnesota State Fair, the Ordway Theatre, on WCCO Radio, scores of corporate shows and hundreds of concert appearances in communities far and wide. They have also played regularly on Mississippi paddlewheel boats and traveled overseas to Nagasaki, Japan.
Led by Dick Petersen on banjo, the band includes Jim Ten Bensel on trombone, Tom Andrews on drums, Steve Pikal on bass, Fred Richardson on clarinet and Russ Peterson on assorted instruments.
