As a part of the Four Corners Lecture Series the Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will present a talk on “The life of a Mimbres turkey: What we know from iconography, genetics, and diet,” with Dr. Sean Dolan at 7 p.m. June 4 at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St.
The talk will discuss what it was like to be a turkey in the Mimbres Valley of southwestern New Mexico from 1000–1130. Dolan uses new genetic and isotope data to reconstruct whether Mimbres turkeys were wild or domesticated and if they ate maize or wild plants, as well as using iconography to discuss how they were viewed and used in society.
