I am writing in response to DJ Birnbaum’s letter published on May 16 about the elections for the Empire Electric Association board of directors (“Cortez, let’s not end up like Durango”).
The candidates he refers to (Carolyn Dunmire, Eric Lindgren and Greg Barker) are running to make EEA’s leadership more representative of the diverse and talented populations of Montezuma and Dolores counties.
As a professional woman with 30 years’ experience in the energy industry, I am running to fill a seat vacated by the only woman on the board because I believe it is important to maintain a diversity of values and experience around the table.
Eric is running to once again apply his extensive engineering and management skills to a local resource management group.
Greg has deep roots in Montezuma County and has returned to start a family here after gaining a professional engineering license and electric power industry experience.
We have all stepped up to join the EEA board because we believe that it is time EEA members have a choice to vote for people that are representative of their diverse values, interests and expertise.
Carolyn Dunmire
