WESTMINSTER – A Colorado man who pleaded guilty to killing his mother and assaulting his sister has been sentenced to nearly 50 years in prison.
KMGH-TV reports a judge sentenced 24-year-old Adrian Luis Ramirez to 48 years in prison for his mother’s death and 25 years for the assault on his sister, to be served concurrently.
Ramirez pleaded guilty in March to second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
Police say they found 41-year-old Cherie Ramirez unconscious after she was bludgeoned with a hammer and stabbed multiple times in a suburban Denver home in October 2017. She died at a hospital.
Police also found 24-year-old Anecia Ramirez, who survived a stab wound to her torso.
Authorities say they do not know what caused the attack. Ramirez says he has no memory of the event.
