Call for equal women’s pay answered by Iron Horse Bicycle Classic

Blevins, Schaldach rallied Durango cycling community to support gender equality
Emily Schaldach has lined up to race in six Iron Horse Bicycle Classics. This year when she lines up May 25 for the pro women’s road race, she will have a chance to race for the same prize purse as the pro men for the first time.
Emily Schaldach grew up in Durango with the dream of being able to finish an Iron Horse Bicycle Classic road race from Durango to Silverton. As she grew older, the inequity of the prize purse payout became something she wanted to change. “Kids growing up should know they have a place in sport and not be undervalued,” she said. “At the start of the race, you should give them equal opportunity and not make someone feel undervalued before they even start.”
