Denkai Animal Sanctuary has signed an 18-month lease and moved its Cortez thrift store to 209 W. Main St.
It plans to purchase the building for $350,000 before the lease expires.
Denkai hopes to raise at least $120,000 toward the building’s purchase. About 25% of Denkai’s monthly payments and $7,250 invested will be credited toward the purchase. Denkai has a projected operating budget of $560,000 for 2019.
Denkai plans to offer educational programs, dog training and rescued animals for adoption. The organization also is considering a subsidized veterinary service.
