I guess I must have been living under a rock when Senate Bill 18-143 (Future Generations Act) was passed back in May of 2018.
I did not hear of any increase to the fishing license until today when I went in to purchase my yearly license.
Imagine my shock when my fee of last year jumped from $6 to $20.50.
I understand that the fees have not increased for some time now, but for a senior, this is ridiculous!
Some fees just for fishing have gone up 100 percent. Even our teens must pay for a license ($9.75). Where will it stop!
There is now a fee for the ”ANS Boating Stamp” of $25 for residents with registered boats.
Our elected officials in Denver have probably never had a fishing license, but we here in rural Colorado look forward to the winter thaw and to get back to the water.
I see this as another way for government to dip into each and every Colorado resident’s (especially seniors’) pockets.
Another factor that may have not been considered is the cost to our visitors. Those tourists are a great income here in rural Colorado.
