Hundreds of spectators gathered in Boyle Park on Monday to “ooh and “aah” at the Mancos fireworks display.
The lights started about 9 p.m. and lasted for about 45 minutes as the sun set and the sky cleared. The display was accompanied by music, wrapping up with the Bruce Springsteen classic “Born in the U.S.A.” Mancos’ volunteer fire department put on the show.
Kids played at the playground at the park before the display began. Many were dressed in their best red, white and blue outfits, and some had painted faces. As the sun set, spectators broke out glow sticks to light up the evening.
The Mancos Lions Club sold popcorn to raise money for new facilities at Boyle Park, including a new pavilion. Volunteers from the fire department also passed around fire boots to raise money to offset the cost of the fireworks display, which is funded by the community.
