Mancos law-enforcement officers stopped a car on Feb. 14 that was involved in a hit-and-run accident, heading westbound from La Plata County.
According to Marshal Justen Goodall, Cortez dispatch put out a radio call for the green sedan about 3:29 p.m., and a Mancos officer responded to the 42000 block of U.S. Highway 160, just west of County Road 42.5.
The officer noticed a westbound car that was smoking from the engine compartment and had heavy front-end damage, Goodall said. The Mancos officer turned on the sedan for a traffic stop, and the car pulled into a private residential driveway in that same block.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old Gerald John, and his male passenger were detained, and two Mancos officers stayed on-scene until Colorado State Patrol arrived and took charge of the case.
