While the Mancos High School boys basketball team looked a bit rusty in its 58-44 win over Norwood on Jan. 11, big scoring nights from Vassar Stephens and Connor Showalter lifted the Bluejays to victory.
After the Bluejays opened up a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, Norwood outscored Mancos 10-9 in the second to cut Mancos’ lead to 26-19 at halftime. Mancos extended its lead to 40-31 by the end of the third quarter before coasting to a 14-point victory.
Stephens scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Showalter scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Point guard Christian Cova managed the offense and registered eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Next up for Mancos is a home matchup against Ignacio at 7 p.m. on Jan. 15. The Bluejays will enter the contest with a 5-4 record. Ignacio is 3-6.
