The Dolores Town Board Monday hired a Durango company to create a trails plan for the town.
During their workshop meeting Monday, town trustees picked RPI Consulting out of Durango as the top candidate out of 16 who applied to do the work.
Dolores was recently awarded a $20,000 Great Outdoors Colorado grant to help pay for a trails plan in Dolores.
"They seemed to have a real keen knowledge of our area," Town Manager Ryan Mahoney said.
Mahoney also added that the board was pleased with RPI because they knew the company was sensitive to the small town's financial restraints and were willing to negotiate with property owners if a trail was proposed to cross private ground.
"They specialize in small, rural communities," Mahoney said.
Mahoney said the group will eventually host public meetings and a kickoff event will be held in April to get community input regarding where they would like to see trails constructed.
"I think it will be a fun process," Mahoney said.
