U.S. Highway 160 was closed in two spots near Bayfield on Tuesday, but reopened later in the day.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Jeff Chmieleski said Highway 160, about 5 miles east of Bayfield, was closed after a semi truck and van collided about 12:10 p.m. at mile post 109.
Chmieleski said both the van, a black Ford E-350, and the truck, a red Kenworth, were headed west on Highway 160 toward Bayfield.
The van, ahead of the semi, attempted to make a U-turn just in front of a driveway to head back east on the highway, and collided with the truck.
The driver of the van was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. A passenger who is a child was also taken to Mercy with minor injuries.
The driver of the semi was not injured, Chmieleski said. The highway was reopened an hour or so later.
Chmieleski said the driver of the van had not been ticketed as of late Tuesday afternoon, and the crash remained under investigation.
Lisa Schwantes, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation, said Highway 160 between Gem Village and Bayfield closed Tuesday morning as crews worked to recover a crashed semi truck that went off the road Sunday.
Schwantes said drivers were encouraged to avoid the area or use alternate routes as directed by traffic-control personnel on scene. She said CDOT crews attempted to open one lane to alternating traffic.
The road was reopened around 12:40 p.m.
