COLORADO SPRINGS – A woman who was charged after the drowning death of a 9-year-old girl at a hotel pool in Colorado Springs has been sentenced to two years in the custody of a community based prison alternative.
The Gazette reports 58-year-old Lynthia Washington was sentenced Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to negligent homicide in the death of Yevaeh Patrick-Moon last December.
Washington acknowledged allowing her granddaughter and Yevaeh to swim unsupervised.
Surveillance footage shows that Yevaeh drowned within minutes of getting into the deep end. Her friend was in a hot tub at the time and didn’t see her struggling to stay afloat.
Washington tearfully apologized in court Wednesday, calling the girl “a beautiful soul.”
