John F. "Jack" Masters, formerly of Marblehead and N. Beverly, Mass. and Charlotte and Hampstead, N.C., passed away at his home in Cortez on Dec. 30, 2012, two months shy of his 90th birthday.
Jack is the son of the late Albert and Alice Masters of Vancouver, B.C. He was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Massachusetts.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly and his granddaughter, Kristen Alice.
He is survived by his son, Jeff of Cortez; daughter, Gretchen and husband Bobby Wintringham of Dolores; granddaughter, Devyn of Charlotte; brother, Gayton and wife Rosemary of Salem, Mass.; and by many nieces and nephews and their families.
A veteran of the Air Force in World War II, he flew as a gunner pilot of 30 missions in the South Pacific with the 7th Air Force.
Jack was known for his quick wit, love of music, tennis, woodworking, stylish manner and charm. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at a later time in Topsail, N.C. where his ashes will be interred at Topsail Presbyterian Church.
