I’ve noticed that some folks have questions about ballot question 7A (term limit extension for DA). I hope the following information is helpful when deciding how to vote.

First, district attorneys serve four-year terms. Under the current law, the DA of the 22nd Judicial District (who represents Montezuma and Dolores Counties) can only serve two terms before they face term limits.

Question 7A asks voters if they are in favor of allowing the DA to run for a third term instead of being limited to just two.

Question 7A does not eliminate term limits for the DA. Question 7A, if passed, would give the DA the same term limits as our county clerk, coroner, assessor, treasurer, and sheriff.

Question 7A does not guarantee the current or any future DA a third term. It simply allows a DA the chance to run for a third term. Question 7A can be a little confusing to read and I hope this information is useful.

I don’t want to see a caring and experienced DA forced out of office in only eight years. I will be voting YES to 7A because I want the freedom to vote for a DA who is doing a good job. Please join me.
