For 15 years, my dog, Finn, was a hiking partner

A younger Finn has fun on top of the Vermilion Cliffs. We explored the area for days and always had a view of the Grand Canyon far below.

Finn swam in Ice Lakes. Like any Lab, he never passed up a puddle, a pothole or a pond.
Because he was half springer spaniel and half Labrador, Finn had hybrid vigor and the best of both bloodlines.
Fall was Finn’s favorite season, and he enjoyed visiting U.S. Forest Service ranger cabins like the Lone Cone Cabin south of Norwood, where we looked for aspen tree carvings or arborglyphs by sheepherders.
An older Finn, an elder statesman dog, lived to be15 years old.
Finn sprawls out on a friend’s couch. He could sleep through anything and often lounged with his head and paws in odd directions.
