Archaeologist Grant Coffey will discuss the use of aerial drones and 3D technology during his presentation “Digitizing the Past: Recent 3D Modeling at Crow Canyon” on Aug. 28 at the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center campus.
The presentation is part of the 2018 Four Corners Lecture Series, and is free and open to the public. It is at 7 p.m. at 23390 County Road K.
Coffey, who has a master’s degree in archaeology from Northern Arizona University, is a Dove Creek-area native with farming roots in Dolores County, a press release from Crow Canyon said.
He specializes in geographic information system archaeology at Crow Canyon, where his research entails using aerial and drone photography to create 3D models of archaeological sites.
The 3D models have applications for users who are unable to visit an archaeological site such as Haynie site northeast of Cortez and home of Crow Canyon’s Northern Chaco Outliers Project.
