This week kicks off the Mancos Olde Fashioned Christmas with music, lights, Santa and fun with friends. The music has already begun with the Mancos Valley Chorus this past weekend but theyll be in town performing at the Mancos United Methodist Church this Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
You cant miss Santas arrival in town on Friday night. Hell arrive just in time for the lights on the Town Christmas tree at 7 p.m. Mullikin Physical Therapy, a Chamber member, is planning a fun run at 6 p.m. for Friday evening, too. Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce members are pulling together to create a fun and exciting holiday season. Mac Neely is busy organizing her annual cookie contest to take place at the Columbine Bar Friday evening. Get your best cookie recipes together and mix up a batch. You need to bring a dozen to enter. There will be three categories: cookies judged on taste, decorated cookies and the best overall cookie. The fun starts after the tree lighting. Families are invited to come and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and some great cookies.
Geeks on Grand are planning something special for after Santas arrival. They will be having an open house Holiday Party. The Geeks will be showcasing their Accidental Art Gallery and will also be available for tech talk. Stop by for some of their green chili stew and some special herb tea. Lets warm up those bones after standing outside in the cold. Zuma Natural Foods will also be presenting their open mike night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday night. Music, poetry reading and storytelling are all welcome. Maybe you have a family Christmas story to share.
Friday night may end but the fun and holiday cheer continues. On Saturday, Dec. 8, Raven House will host the Mancos Cash Mob at 10 a.m. Lets swamp Raven House with holiday sales. You will be able to find one-of-kind gifts at the Raven and have fun giving the gallery a crazy business day.
Dont stop yet because Kilgore Indian Art and the Mancos Valley Arts Council are collaborating to create a Christmas light contest for businesses in Mancos. Judging will happen Thursday, Dec. 13. The best business light display will be awarded with a Navajo weaving from Kilgore Indian Art on the 14th at the community dinner. So, light it up Mancos and get ready for the holiday season.
Nathaniels of Colorado and the Goodnight Trail Gallery will be bringing Christmas on the Trail to Mancos Tuesday, Dec. 18. The chuck wagon will be on the corner of Main and Grand serving up cowboy coffee and some chuck wagon chow. There might be some cowboy music too. Nathaniels will be show casing western gear. It isnt an olde fashioned Christmas until the cowboys and cowgirls come to town in Mancos.
