Memorial services for lifelong area resident, James Monte Johnson were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at the Dolores Fire Station in Dolores. A potluck followed the services at the fire station.
Monte passed away on Nov. 23, 2012 at Vista Grande Inn after many years of battling complications associated with diabetes. Monte was born in Cortez on March 24, 1951 to James Jimmy Elbert Johnson and Dolores Bebe McEwen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers, Lloyd and Floyd; and his sister, Hazel Marie Supersad.
Monte was a retired member of the Dolores Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Sons of America Legion and an Elk member.
Surviving Monte are his brother, Roger Hedges of Oregon; three children, Brandon Johnson and wife Lori of Cortez, Pastor Chad Johnson of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Lindsay Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by two grandsons, Savion and Gaberen Marquez of Phoenix and two step-grandchildren, Kayla and Travis Watkins of Cortez.
