Homeless residents have played musical campsites this year. First, they were moved to this temporary campsite in May after being ordered to leave an informal campsite they had been allowed to use for two years in west Durango. This month, they were moved to an evacuation shelter at Escalante Middle School, and now, they might be moved to another temporary campsite adjacent to the social services campus below Greenmount Cemetery.
Homeless residents who were staying at a temporary campsite west of Durango were moved to Escalante Middle School as a result of Stage 3 fire restrictions, which prohibit encampments in La Plata County.
