3:23 p.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and a protection order violation in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 after the mother of his infant son reported she had seen him walking outside with no shoes on, carrying the child and showing signs of intoxication. The baby was reportedly bleeding from his head, and another witness claimed the man had dropped him. The man’s mother claimed he had also hit her when she yelled at him about dropping the baby. The baby was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for abrasions on his head.

Wednesday, May 23

9:32 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of check fraud at the Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, 140 W. Main St., Cortez. Two women who reportedly submitted faulty registration payments paid their fees after being contacted by deputies. No charges were filed.

9:32 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

3:27 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 491 on suspicion of violating a protection order after the protected party reported he had sent her an email.

Friday, May 25

4:04 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a water dispute in the 21000 block of County Road W. On Wednesday a woman had reportedly taken the spigots off a water pipe in order to prevent her neighbor, who shared her water rights, from using it. After receiving a verbal warning, she had reportedly opened a valve that allowed all the water to flow into a ditch on her property, again preventing the neighbor from using it. Deputies mediated between the two women until they agreed to allow one neighbor to use 100 percent of the water on even-numbered days, and the other to use it all on odd-numbered days.

Saturday, May 26

11:05 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a fire near the 15000 block of County Road 30. A property owner claimed he had seen the fire starting in his field while he was working on his tractor, but didn’t know what caused it. Dolores Fire Department personnel put out the fire, and said they had no reason to believe it was suspicious.

12:59 p.m.: A man was arrested at Arby’s, 504 S. Broadway, Cortez, on a Garfield County warrant for failure to comply.

Sunday, May 27

8:38 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 31000 block of County Road R on two warrants for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges after the property owners reported an abandoned truck on their land. While deputies were checking the truck to see if it was stolen, another truck drove onto the property. After contacting the occupants, deputies issued trespass notices to all three occupants at the property owners’ request. The man reportedly gave a false name at first, but eventually gave the name attached to the warrants.

Monday, May 28

11:30 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 27000 block of County Road T on suspicion of violating a protection order after she reported a disturbance. She was reportedly intoxicated in violation of her protection order.

Wednesday, May 30

8:01 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10000 block of County Road 24.4 Loop on suspicion of violating a protection order after the protected party’s father reported he was at her residence. When deputies arrived, the protected party reportedly said the suspect was gone, but deputies found him hiding in a bedroom closet. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.

9:28 a.m.: A male inmate was served with two warrants for larceny and failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

10:56 a.m.: A male inmate was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

11:01 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

2:59 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of fraud in the 8000 block of County Road 41. A woman claimed a man had called her several times claiming that she had won $3 million and needed to send a $150 money order to an address in New Jersey to pay legal costs. She said she sent the original requested amount, but refused to send any more money, and the caller was now harassing her. Deputies were unable to trace the call or find a suspect.

7:23 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of owning out-of-control animals in the 36000 block of County Road K.3 after a neighbor reported his four dogs had cornered her on her property. When deputies arrived, the dogs reportedly surrounded them, baring their teeth aggressively. A deputy used heavy doses of pepper spray on the dogs, but they reportedly refused to settle down. The owner reportedly got the dogs under control with an effort, but said they had been running loose ever since their electric fence collars died.

2:38 p.m.: A male inmate was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

5:10 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant for failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
