Book your booth space at the Christmas Bazaar now



Ruby Gonzales is taking applications from local artists and craftsmen and women for the Christmas Bazaar, which will be Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Dolores Community Center. Spaces are limited and a booth space costs $20. Contact Ruby Gonzales at 882-7717 for more information.




Fall Carnival to be in Pleasant View Nov. 3



Pleasant View Elementary School will be hosting their 12th annual Fall Harvest Carnival on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the school in Pleasant View. A chili dinner will be served from 5:30-6:45 p.m.; the carnival will be open from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Wear your country duds or a costume and come enjoy dinner, games, door prizes, costume contest, fun and a Country Store to cash in your winnings.

Dinner is $5.00 for adults; $3.00 for children.

Quilters to meet Nov. 6



The Dolores Mountain Quilters will have their monthly meeting at the the Ponderosa Restaurant in Dolores at 10: Tuesday Nov. 6. Our meeting will include a report on a 3 day quilters retreat in Old La Sal, Utah and demonstration on how to make a Pocket Canister. Quilters of all levels are welcome.




Veterans encouraged to attend Dolores event



The Dolores School District will host a Veteran’s Day Program on Monday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. in the Auxiliary Gym at the Dolores High School. All veterans are encouraged to attend and can register before the program at 8:30 a.m. There will be a reception after the program in the Band Hall. For more information, call 882-7288.




League of Women Voters to sponsor event on court system



The League of Women Voters Montezuma County will sponsor a presentation by the Colorado Bar on the Colorado Criminal Court System. The meeting will be held Nov. 10, at 9 am at the Ponderosa Restaurant, Dolores. Discussion will follow. The Public is invited to this meeting. Be sure to schedule this interesting presentation.

The speaker for this program is JenniLynn Everett Lawrence.

“JenniLynn Everett Lawrence graduated from University of Wisconsin Law School in 1997 and enjoyed the private practice of law for thirteen years before being appointed to serve as Montezuma County Court Judge. She is admitted to practice in Colorado, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Florida. As a practicing attorney she earned the esteemed AV Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell. Judge Lawrence is a native of Montezuma County. She was raised on a cattle ranch located outside of Mancos and is a graduate of Mancos High School and Fort Lewis College. Judge Lawrence’s family members were some of the first pioneers to settle in the area. Prior to becoming an attorney, Judge Lawrence taught English at the Cortez Middle School, and the Montezuma-Cortez High School.

“Judge Lawrence was appointed to the Montezuma County Court in November 2010. Judge Lawrence currently hears traffic, misdemeanor, and civil cases up to $15,000.00. Judge Lawrence also hears felony preliminary hearings and serves as a District Court Magistrate.




For Pets’ Sake to hold Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk



For Pets’ Sake Humane Society will hold its Ninth Annual Cortez Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 at the Parque de Vida Pavilion near the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 Roger Smith Avenue. The 1 mile fun run/walk starts at 10 a.m., regardless of the weather.

This is probably For Pets’ Sake’s most enjoyable event of the year! The entry fee is $20 and includes a cool serene green commemorative T-shirt. Costumes for all are encouraged! Prizes will be awarded for fastest people and pets, best and best-coordinated costumes, best pet trick, most unusual pet to cross the finish line, and lots of other categories. All proceeds benefit For Pets’ Sake Humane Society and their work for the dogs and cats of Montezuma and Dolores counties.

Methodist Church Holiday Bazaar



Candy and pies and decorations — oh, my! Plan to do your early Christmas shopping from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Hampton Hall at the First United Methodist Church at 515 N. Park. Ornaments and other decorations, needlecraft, baked goodies and candy, toys and other items will be offered at reasonable prices. A complete lunch that includes a choice of homemade chicken and dumplings or chili, cornbread and pie, and a drink. Pie and beverages will also be available all morning for a donation.
