Monica Plewe recently reported that the newly formed Girl’s Golf Team at Dolores High School raised $2,928 at their first golf tournament fundraiser at the Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez. Plewe said the team if off to a good start and also was given $78 in credit at the pro shop. In addition, $50 of equipment was donated, including a golf bag and clubs.

“It’s really exciting,” Plewe said.

The girls are expected to begin practicing as a team in the early spring. Girls from Mancos, Dove Creek and Cortez can also join the team because those schools do not offer girls golf.

The Teddy Bear Preschool was looking good this week with the donation of three new trees at the playground. In other preschool news, the Teddy Bear Preschool held its annual fall carnival over the weekend and it was enjoyed by many little ghosts and goblins, not as many as in years past, but it was a good time by all.

Trick or Treating in Dolores Wednesday was fun. Lots and lots of fabulous costumes and friendly faces were seen wandering the streets and knocking on doors.

Around 200 Jack O’lanterns glowed in front of the Dolores Food Market Wednesday, always a beautiful sight. Students from Dolores schools carved the masterpieces and some showed real creativity. Our favorite was the spider pumpkin. Taz Vass has been buying pumpkins from a local farmer for years and donating them to Dolores students so they can carve them and he can let them glow in front of his store Halloween night.

Speaking of the Dolores Food Market, owner Taz Vass had some , ummm, interesting decorations this year. Let us just say that sheep should watch their necks if they see Vass coming their way.

The Pony Expresso hosted their Grand Opening Wednesday night with delicious samples of baked goods, free hot chocolate for the little ones and candy for the little ghosts and goblins. The baked goods were fabulous. Let’s just say that if I had a personal trainer, other than the electronic one that e-mails me electronically generated advice every day, found out that I was going here too often, I would be in big trouble. Owner Teresa Howell is a fabulous baker, much to the dismay of my electronic trainer’s wishes. One person described Howell’s goodies as “sinful.”
