Mancos football season ends

Mancos senior running back Branson Mitchell rushed for 241 yards on 21 carries, but it wasn’t enough.

The Bluejays lost their 8-man cross-divisional postseason game at La Veta last Saturday afternoon, 42-8.

Mitchell ended the season with 2,152 yards rushing, which is currently second in the state to Eaton’s Austin Ekeler (2,176). Mitchell ended the year with 18 touchdowns, as he had the lone score for Mancos (4-5) Saturday, a 95-yard TD run.

Mitchell had a game-high 22 tackles at linebacker, adding to his state leading season total of 185.

Ty Koppenhafer recorded 13 tackles, while Steven and Casey Rohweder tallied 12 and 11 tackles each. Senior Conner Jankowski recovered a fumble for Mancos in his final game.
