Helpful hints from a friend in Texas

I have a few helpful hints I’d like to share. I read with interest about the freak frost that wiped out the apple crop of TLazyT Orchard. A trick I use to slow down the blooming is to shade the bottom three feet of the trees on the south side with boards, plywood, etc. Do not wrap the trunk, as that will hold the heat in. I have been doing it for years; it works on peaches and pears.

For cramps in the legs, feet and ankles, massage castor oil on the area. Be free with the castor oil, not wasteful, but use plenty. Wrap the area in plastic and towels and leave on until it starts bothering you. You should not have sore muscles the next day.

I came out to Durango in July of 2010 for my nephew’s wedding, visited Mesa Verde and then had lunch in Mancos at the nicest restaurant with a nice patio. I fell in love with the area and people. I started taking the newspaper to learn more about the area. I had planned on moving out there, but my health took a severe left turn so that has been put on hold.

I still take the paper; just wish I still got the “Funday Sunnies” with it.
