I was in the last graduating class of what is now the middle school. As I recall those years, a smile comes to my face. In my experience, life was good. The present high school had passed the vote of the community and was under construction. For the past 47 years, this institution has withstood the test of time, but now we are being asked again as a community and county to fund a high school for our children. We can debate indefinitely the usefulness and efficiency of the present building, but we must all agree the technology explosion has vastly changed the educational tools used for learning. It is a new world, and it is our responsibility as leaders, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends in this community to say, “Yes, we want to build a future for our children.”

As a businessman, the opportunity to utilize $22.7 million (52 percent) of the total construction cost in free money is unbelievable. We must take advantage of these funds while they still exist and we have them. We could not afford the school without this grant.

The overall benefit of this investment is invaluable. It will be a cornerstone of the future, anchoring the wonderful amenities we have to offer in this beautiful place where we live.

I urge you to vote “yes” on 3B. It will be a sacrifice for all, harder for some than others.

As JFK said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. Today our concern must be with that future. For the world is changing.”

Our children are the leaders of tomorrow, and they must have the best opportunities in the world to learn. I believe this is the time to do our small part.
