Cortez Middle School holds Parent/Teacher Conferences
Cortez Middle School will have Parent/Teacher Conferences today, Oct. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. No appointment is necessary. Manaugh Elementary Book Fair
Manaugh Elementary will hold a Book Fair though Friday, Oct. 26. The Book Fair will be held in the library of the school at 300 E. 4th St. in Cortez. The hours are from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Spooktacular Halloween light display happens nightly
The public is invited to view a free Spooktacular Halloween light show set to music for kids and adults alike. Enjoy the show nightly from 7 to 10:30 p.m. from now through Sunday, Nov. 4. The display is located south of Cortez at 6821 Hwy. 160/491 (next to Redburn Tire). This annual light display is done as a gift to the community.
Mesa Elementary School Scholastic Book Fair
Every Reader is a Star! is the theme for this years Scholastic Book Fair at Mesa Elementary School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 25. The fair will take place in the Mesa Elementary library, 703 W. Seventh St., Cortez. Funds raised will help purchase books for Mesas media center and classroom libraries. Families, community members, and home school families are invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers. Civil Rights Commission invites public to two area meetings
The Colorado Civil Rights Commission invites the public to two meetings today, Oct. 25 in Cortez and Towaoc for an informal discussion on civil rights issues facing Coloradans. The meetings will be held at First National Bank in Cortez, 2258 E. Main St., from 1 to 3 p.m., and at the Ute Mountain Casino Conference Room, 3 Weeminuche Dr. in Towaoc, from 6 to 8 p.m. The meetings will be held to educate the public on state civil rights laws and also to take any complaints related to employment, housing, or public accommodations, such as service in a restaurant, park or other public place. For Pets Sake Halloween Bake Sale
to benefit local pets
For Pets Sake Humane Society will hold a Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the north entrance to City Market in Cortez. As usual, there will be lots of cookies, cakes, pies, breads, and homemade dog treats! Proceeds from the fundraiser will aid the population of Montezuma and Dolores counties. In addition to running a spay/neuter assistance programs, For Pets Sake provides foster homes for animals awaiting adoption and helps local people pay for emergency veterinary care for their pets. Donations of baked goods from the groups members and supporters can be dropped off at City Market starting at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the sale. Library Libations fundraiser
Library Libations, a fundraiser by the Cortez Public Library Advisory Board, will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Cortez Journal, 123 N. Roger Smith Ave. Wine, hors doeuvres, a silent auction and a dessert auction, are features of the annual event. Admission is $25 per person and $40 per couple. All proceeds go to the library.
Presbyterian Women Fall/Christmas Bazaar
The Presbyterian Women will hold their Fall/Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 350 S. Washington St. in Cortez. Pie and drinks will be served all day for $1.50 and lunch of your choice of soups, bread, pie and a drink will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $5 for adults, and $3 for children age 10 and under. Vista Grande nursing home holds beaded jewelry bazaar
Vista Grande nursing home is holding their first ever beaded jewelry bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the nursing home lobby. The bazaar was started by staff and aids who helped Vista Grande residents design and make pieces of jewelry and other accessories. There will be earrings, necklaces, bracelets and decorated flip flops for sale. All the proceeds will be donated to benefit Parkinsons disease. Hospice of Montezuma invites the community to a pancake supper and raffle drawing for a trip of a lifetime on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Montezuma County Annex, 103 N. Chestnut in Cortez. Tickets for the supper and the raffle will be available from Hospice employees, at the Hospice office or sold at the door. The pancake supper will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon, eggs, dessert toppings and beverages, and is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children and $15 for families. The raffle drawing will be held at 6:30 p.m. for a voucher from Cortez Travel in the amount of $4,000 to be used towards a trip of your dreams.
