The San Juan National Forest is seeking comments on a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Trimble Administrative Site Land Conveyance Project. The EA discloses anticipated impacts of the proposed sale, which would dispose of surplus facilities and retain the proceeds for investment into other local Forest facilities.

This comment period combines public scoping and the 30-day comment period required under agency notice and comment regulations. This is the only public comment period that will be offered for this project. The comment deadline is June 4, 2018.

The EA and instructions for how to comment can be viewed or downloaded at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=45948

The proposed sale includes three garage-type structures and six smaller storage-type structures on approximately 20 acres of land located 1/3 mile east of State Highway 550 on County Road 252 (Trimble Lane) about eight miles north of Durango. Trimble Administrative Site has been used as a work center, horse pasture and Administrative Site, but all of these uses have been relocated.

If approved, the sale will be conducted under competitive, on-line progressive bid auction. The mineral estate and an absolute water right of 0.4 cfs would be conveyed with the property. The sale will likely include a deed restriction for protection of 0.63 acres of wetlands. The property is located within a 100-year floodplain.

If approved, advertising for the auction and how to become a bidder will likely occur in the fall or early winter.
