Montezuma—Cortez School Board Re-1 member Jack Schuenemeyer recently won an award from the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB).

Schuenemeyer, who serves as the Re-1 board’s vice president, received the McGuffey Award at the CASB’s fall regional meeting in Durango on Oct. 2.

Re-1 Superintendent Alex Carter nominated Schuenemeyer for the award for his commitment and passionate service to public education. In his nomination, Carter said Schuenemeyer has been “steadfast” in his support for educational reform and district-wide improvement.

Through the efforts of Schuenemeyer and his wife Judy, the “Adopt a Teacher” program was instituted to help connect businesses with teachers who need supplies.

Schuenemeyer was also instrumental in the district’s successful bid for a 2012 BEST grant to replace Montezuma-Cortez High School.
