Competing in chilly weather against tough competition, the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls track teams produced solid results at the Aztec B&B Invitational in Aztec on April 20-21.

Among the top finishers for the girls team was Aryelle Wright, who finished sixth in the 100-meter dash finals (12.95) after finishing second in preliminaries (12.90). Wright also finished first in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash (26.24) and third in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash (1:00.98), but did not run in the finals in either event.

Also enjoying a solid day in the sprinting events was Morgan Short, who finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.02) and third in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash (27.26) before electing not to run in the finals. Short also finished third overall in the long jump (1:00.98).

In the hurdling events, M-CHS was led by Ashley Wood, who placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.15) and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (51.37). Ridley Dennison ranked as the M-CHS girls team’s top distance runner over the weekend as she posted an eighth-place finish in the 1600-meter run (6:18.60).

The M-CHS boys team was led by Cordell Baer, whose season-best mark in the triple jump (40 feet, 10½ inches) was good enough for second overall.

Titus Jackson finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (42.37), sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.48), and 10th in the long jump (5 feet, 4 inches). Valentino Rodriguez placed seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.86) after posting the fourth-best time in the preliminary round (11.86).

Sonny Boren crossed the line fifth in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash (54.88), but elected not to run in the finals. Trey Yarbrough finished seventh in the 200-meter dash preliminaries (24.02) and ninth in the 400-meter dash preliminaries (53.74).

Tyler Cutrone rounded out members of the boys team who finished in the Top 10 of individual events with a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (54.88).
