The Four Corners Friends of the NRA awarded $14,997.75 in donations to four organizations at a banquet Saturday evening at the Cortez Elks Lodge.

Each organization was presented a check by Vanessa and Nathan Nicholson of The Four Corners Friends of the NRA.

Montezuma County 4-H received $9,977.30, Cortez Junior Shooters received $3,046.62, Women on Target received $701.73, and La Plata County 4-H received $1,272.10.

The director of the Junior Shooters program, Norman Bowie, said the grants from the Friends of the NRA completely facilitate the Junior Shooters Program from the Four Corners Rifle and Pistol Club.

“We have 26 kids in the program right now, and everything is completely free for them.”

According to Bowie, the program’s biggest focus is gun safety, followed by marksmanship.
