New law office opens, accepting clients
The Law Office of Jill M. Carlson, located at 110 N. Beech Street inside San Juan Dental Clinic, is open and taking clients. Carlson runs a general law practice that includes family, criminal and civil law, bankruptcy, wills and trusts and small business issues. Carlson is a graduate of M-CHS and attended Washburn Law School in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated in 2011 and returned to Cortez to start her practice. Chamber holds Business After Hours networking event
The Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce invites the business community to join Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Cortez Quilt Company, 40 W. Main St. This is a popular, casual networking option for businesses. Complimentary beer, wine and appetizers are served. Open to all chamber members, member employees and invited guests. Businesses may bring guests and even current clients for an evening of business and fun, all rolled into one. These events are held the second Thursday of every month at various locations, and give members the opportunity to network with others in the business community in a relaxed setting, while mingling with potential customers, business associates, and community leaders. Economic Development Association luncheon
The Montezuma Community Economic Development Association (MCEDA) invites the public to a lunch presentation at MCEDAs annual fall community meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. Learn about the future of Economic Development in Montezuma County and get insight into how businesses, organizations and the public can promote local economic development as well as learning about the local school initiatives for Mancos, Dolores and Cortez at this informative event. The luncheon is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Lunch will be provided by the Ponderosa Restaurant for $10. SWMH Foundation offers Womens Health Symposium
The Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation will offer a Womens Health Symposium on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 20 S. Main St., Cortez. A full slate of local physicians and SWMH staff experts will give presentations on a variety of topics of interest to women of all ages at this day-long symposium. Lectures (with time for Q&A) will include how to get a good nights sleep, diagnosis and treatment of common gynecological problems, womens sexuality, weight management after 40, an update on osteoporosis, and how to maintain balance as you age. Registration fee is a $25 donation to the hospital Foundation and includes a healthy continental breakfast, delicious lunch, handouts, and door prizes.
