We have the right to protect ourselves

As I read and hear comments on the Second Amendment, I am amazed at the people who do not know why we even have a Second Amendment. This amendment isn’t just about being able to possess a firearm. We are allowed to bear the arms of the day to challenge a tyrannical government. We have the right to protect ourselves from enemies, both foreign and domestic.

There is a movement to eliminate assault weapons. Our government and those who aim to harm us will possess just that kind of weapon. Do we desire to take a knife to a gunfight? Our Forefathers knew better.

The NRA understands the need to remain strong and possess more than just a knife, yet they are the “catch-all” for every evil act in the United States, We expect our teachers to protect our children in school, yet we expect them to face an armed individual and place their unarmed body in front of a firearm and protect your children. Are the teachers any less important than our children? Maybe we should ask their families!

I sympathize with every family who has lost someone due to gun violence, but disarming the rest of the population out of emotion is not the answer. We can make our schools safe without disarming the population. Most of these kids come from a home protected by a firearm.
