Setting a new, beautiful fashion trend

Some Dolores girls pledged to be naturally beautiful. Ali Umberger and a handful of other girls at the Dolores High School recently finished a pledge known as “No Makeup Mondays.” The girls pledged not to wear makeup for four straight Mondays and followed this pledge, words we can all live by.

“I pledge to wake up and be positive each morning. I pledge to believe I am naturally beautiful. I pledge to find positive, not negatives in my appearance. I pledge to help others find the positives and feel beautiful. I pledge to be beautiful inside and out.”

Good job girls.

It seems like this year is flying by as we are already in October. Christmas displays are already out at some local stores and Ruby Gonzales is already planning the ever-popular Christmas Bazaar. It is going to be on Dec. 1 this year at the Dolores Community Center and will feature all the latest and greatest handmade goods made locally. If you are interested in reserving a space at the bazaar, call Ruby at 882-7717.

Dolores is home to a two-time National Champion! Lauren Hall competed in the 2012 USA Cycling Elite Track Nationals Championships last week and won two National Championships in one day. She won the women’s 3-kilometer and the women’s 10-kilometer. She returned from a European road cycling race tour last month, winning second at a prestigious and tough Italian tour.

The fishing is reportedly good, despite low water levels. Word is that fishing in the river where it joins the very low lake is the best spot. Shhh.

Don’t forget the Oct. 9 deadline to register to vote. This is a very important election, both locally and nationally. You can register and check your registration status at www.govotecolorado.com.
