Missionaries Dan and Earlene Ligon will speak at Evangel Assembly of God Church, 209 W. 5th St., Cortez, on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 10:30 a.m. about their missionary work in Niger, West Africa. The public is invited to hear what God is doing in the Muslim nation. This event is free of charge; there will be a free-will offering during the meeting for missions work.
The Ligons started their work in Niger with the American Assemblies of God Church in 1991. Now there are over 50 churches in Niger, with over 2,000 adherents in regular Sunday morning church attendance. The couple has a Bible school (pastors training in French and Hausa language), and a Christian private school in Maradi, Niger. There is also an orphanage, a correspondence school center, a famine relief organization, and Christian clinic operating under the national church.
Earlene Ligon is the director of the largest Christian School in Maradi, with 959 students from nursery school through 9th grade; they hope to add another grade each year, until the high school years are complete.
Dan Ligon works with the French/Hausa language Bible school, which is a training center for pastors in Maradi, with a church planting ministry for the Fulani area north of Maradi, and is also director for the American mission in Niger.
The Ligon family started their ministry after Dan graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. They pastored in Monte Vista, Colo., before they pioneered the church in Brigham City, Utah. From Utah, they left for their missionary assignment in Liberia, until after the civil war began. The Ligons served for nine years in Nigeria, doing Bible school training and church planting in the Muslim north, and then moved to Niger to start the work.
Dan and Earlene are both ministers with the Assemblies of God Church, and will take time to talk before and after the meeting with all who are interested in Africa. For more information, call 565-4198.
