Reception for The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly photo show
The Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market St., will host another reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 for The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly photo show for Cortez Heart and Soul. Heart & Soul Cortez block party at M-CHS
Heart & Soul Cortez will host a neighborhood block party to try and get feedback on what residents value about Cortez and what the future of the community could be. The party will be at Montezuma-Cortez High School, 206 W. 7th St., on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. There will a free barbecue, ice cream, family fun and activities, including tours of the high school and technical biking workshops by Kokopelli Bike and Board. Dinner, band will raise funds for Special Olympics
The Cortez Special Olympics and Blondies Pub and Grub, 45 E. Main St., are having a benefit spaghetti dinner Sunday, Sept. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. Local band, Geophonix will be playing rockin to blues-y tunes. The pool hall will be open, and the spaghetti is only $8 a plate. All funds will go to the Cortez Special Olympics to raise money for the local bowling team to go to the Regional State Tournament. Martha Becker Memorial Quilt Show & reception
Enjoy the beauty of fiber arts at the Cortez Cultural Centers Art Gallery, 25 N. Market St. The Center is honored to host the Martha Becker Memorial Quilt Show beginning Monday, Oct. 1 through Nov. 3. Martha was a valued volunteer at the Center, as well as an award-winning quilter. M-CHS gears up for production
Montezuma-Cortez High School drama department is gearing up for their fall production, Arsenic and Old Lace, a dark comedy classic. The 2012-2013 theatre season will feature shows from the 1930s and 1940s era, keeping with the departments theme this year, A New Deal. The show will run on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the M-CHS auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Five and under are free. Contemporary fine art photography show opening
There will be an opening of a contemporary fine art photographic show at Olio Wine Bar & Restaurant in Mancos, 114 W. Grand Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. Democracy Now! host/author Amy Goodman book tour
KSJD Community Radio and Tami Graham Presents will host Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman, who will be at the Mancos Opera House from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 as she tours with her newly released book, co-authored by Denis Moynihan, titled The Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance, and Hope. The Opera House is located at 136 W. Grand Ave. This event is free with a $10 suggested donation. Proceeds raised will benefit KSJD Dryland Community Radio. This timely new sequel gives voice to the many ordinary people standing up to corporate and government power and refusing to be silent.
