Friday, March 9

6:32 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a wounded deer lying in the road in the 14000 block of County Road 25. A deputy killed the deer with his gun and removed it from the road.

11:20 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 5000 block of County Road 25 on suspicion of second-degree assault and domestic violence after deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the area. The man’s girlfriend claimed he had cut her with a knife after she said she planned to leave the house. The man reportedly denied the claim, saying the woman had cut her own wrist. The woman’s daughter, who was reportedly in the house at the time of the incident, said she did not believe the man had cut the woman, although she also said she had not seen anything. While he was being transported to jail, the man reportedly yelled threats, profanities and racial slurs against the arresting deputy and jail staff.

1:59 p.m.: A man was arrested on two warrants, one from Montezuma and one from La Plata County, at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

2:05 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report that a small bag of marijuana had been found in the gym at Dolores High School, 1301 Central Ave. Responding deputies confiscated the marijuana for destruction. The case remains under investigation.

Saturday, March 10

1:43 p.m.: A man relinquished an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle at the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, 730 E. Driscoll St. The man reportedly told deputies he had owned the gun since 1993, but after the shooting in Parkland, Florida, he wanted it destroyed “for the safety of all students.” Deputies took the weapon in for destruction.

2:06 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons in the 7000 block of County Road 25 on suspicion of speeding. She reportedly could not provide any registration or proof of insurance for the car, which she said she was borrowing from someone for a quick trip to her mom’s house. The vehicle was towed.

3:21 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 25000 block of County Road G on a warrant. She reportedly refused to put her hands behind her back at deputies’ command, and one deputy pointed his stun gun at her. Another deputy reportedly grabbed her left hand and the back of her coat and pushed her down onto a bed, after which the deputies handcuffed her. Two containers of marijuana and a marijuana pipe were found on her person. She reportedly complained of pain from an old injury in her arm before being transported to jail, but later said she did not need to go to the hospital.

Sunday, March 11

9:06 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being booked into the jail, due to severe intoxication.

Monday, March 12

9:45 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of counterfeit money at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. Jail staff reported that an inmate had used a counterfeit $10 bill to pay a fee on Friday, March 9.
