Monday, March 5

1:28 p.m.: Deputies responded to an animal bite in the 18000 block of Colorado Highway 145. A man reported a cat had injured his forehead, ears, face, left arm and right hand. A cat fitting the man’s description was found with a neighbor, who said she keeps the cat indoors, but agreed to surrender it to Cortez Animal Control. When the deputy reached toward the cat, it reportedly hissed, and he told the woman she could transport the animal herself.

2:34 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

4:30 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of vandalism in the 15000 block of County Road 22. A man said his girlfriend had thrown their TV during an argument, causing an estimated $1,500 in damage, and had unplugged the telephone and thrown several knives on the floor before leaving. Deputies were unable to locate the girlfriend, and requested and received a warrant for her arrest on charges of domestic violence and criminal mischief.

8:54 p.m.: Deputies responded to a suicide threat in Cortez. A man had reportedly been making suicidal statements, and the report stated there was a possible gun in his residence. At his request, deputies transported the man to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment.

11:29 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to comply.

Tuesday, March 6

4:43 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to comply.

4:54 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on two warrants for failure to appear and failure to comply.

6:16 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for sexual exploitation or enticement of a child and sexual exploitation of a child through the internet.

10:45 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a fire in the 18000 block of County Road G. A Chevrolet pickup was engulfed in flames, originating from the front cab. A man said the pickup caught fire, and he stopped and escaped uninjured. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and the pickup was towed.

Wednesday, March 7

11:33 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

3:27 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

5:18 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

8:05 p.m.: Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of U.S. Highway 160 after observing a vehicle that was driving with a broken headlight. Deputies smelled marijuana, and the driver handed over a container with pot leaves inside. Deputies handed over the investigation to Bureau of Indian Affairs agents.

Thursday, March 8

12:05 a.m.: A man was cited in the 14000 block of Colorado Highway 145 on suspicion of DUI and driving with defective lights.

11:06 a.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

11:11 a.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

1 p.m.: A white, crystal-like substance was found in the bathroom in the booking room at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. Jail deputies said a male inmate and another man had been in the bathroom beforehand, but both denied leaving it there. Deputies had the substance destroyed.
