Tipton, the GOP must act on gun control

Last year, I had the opportunity to hear Scott Tipton speak and answer questions at a town hall meeting in Montrose. The thing I most remember about that meeting is how adept Tipton was at avoiding the answering of questions.

I would like Tipton to explain to all of us why other developed countries have a much, much lower rate of gun deaths. Tipton says the main issue is not guns, but mental health.

Does that mean other countries do not have people with mental health issues? No, the obvious difference is access to guns. The research has been done. Now, it is time for Tipton and other Republicans to support gun control, as well as mental health. If this is not done, these awful deaths will continue.

Nearly every day now there are law enforcement officers shot and killed. President Donald Trump quickly and strongly refers to any crime that gives him the opportunity to condemn immigrants and promote his wall. However, Trump and our Representative Scott Tipton display little concern for shootings committed by domestic terrorists.

Have you ever heard Tipton recently express concern for the hundreds injured and killed in Las Vegas or for the families in our country whose lives have been shattered by gun violence?

There have been hundreds of thousands of gun deaths since Tipton has been in office, and he has done nothing. Anyone who displays such a casual attitude toward these deaths should immediately resign from office.
