Driver unhurt after running off Colorado 145 in merge lane

No injuries were reported in an accident Friday on Colorado Highway 145.

A two-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon ended with an SUV veering into a field off Colorado Highway 145.

According to Colorado State Patrol’s preliminary investigation at the scene, the incident occurred about 3:45 p.m. as the black SUV attempted to avoid a white pickup truck that was merging onto Colorado 145 from County Road M in front of the northbound SUV.

“We are still under investigation ... but the white pickup truck was in the merge lane in front of the black SUV. They didn’t know what they were going to do,” Colorado State Trooper Tonja Cowan said. “This guy (the black SUV) tried to pass and was over in the other lane, and he lost control.”

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The Cortez Police Department, Cortez Fire Protection District, Montezuma County Sheriff’s deputies, Southwest Memorial Hospital and Colorado State Patrol responded to the scene.
