Wednesday, Feb. 14
9:11 a.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog in the 5000 block of County Road 25, after a neighbor reported his dogs ate three of her chickens, worth $45 total.
Thursday, Feb. 15
9:13 a.m.: Deputies conducted a civil standby in the 6000 block of County Road 46 to allow a man to retrieve construction equipment from a job site.
1:21 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of possible child abuse at Dolores High School, 1301 Central Ave. A juvenile reported that he was afraid to go home because his mother had been hitting him with a broomstick, threatening him with a knife and verbally abusing him. He reportedly had marks on his arms. The juvenile’s parents denied his mother had hit him, although the mother reportedly said she “swats him on the back side” for disobeying her. Deputies arranged with a social worker to have the boy stay with a friend until they could investigate.
Friday, Feb. 16
10 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 6000 block of County Road 24 on suspicion of domestic violence and harassment after his girlfriend said he hit her with a bowl after she refused to buy more beer.
Friday, Feb. 16
5:23 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 7000 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man told deputies he wished to report his pickup as stolen, saying it gone missing after he had lent it to his brother and his brother’s wife had been pulled over and arrested while driving it a few days before. Deputies learned from Colorado State Patrol that the pickup had been found on the side of the road on Feb. 8. The reporting party said he did not want to press charges.
Saturday, Feb. 17
6:42 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of displaying a fictitious number plate after he was pulled over for driving with a defective headlight. The man reportedly told deputies he had switched the vehicle’s license plate for one belonging to another vehicle. He reportedly said he had been stopped four times for the broken headlight, but no other officers had noticed the fictitious plate.
9:02 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 7000 block of County Road 21.75 on a warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor after deputies responded to a report of a fire at his residence. The homeowners had reportedly extinguished part of the fire before deputies arrived, and one deputy helped to finish off the flames, which apparently came from a generator in a trailer next to the residence. The generator, valued at $2,000, was destroyed, and homeowners estimated $8,000 in damage was done to the residence. One person was treated by medical personnel. The suspect, a homeowner, was arrested after deputies realized he had a warrant.
Sunday, Feb. 18
8:01 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a woman making threats in the 23000 block of County Road F.5. A woman reported that another woman had texted and called her multiple times, saying she was going to go to her house with a gun. The suspect later called deputies and said she had no intention of going to the woman’s house. She reportedly said she was venting anger over issues she had with the woman’s son, her ex-boyfriend. Deputies did not arrest the woman or file charges, but told her not to go near the residence and forwarded the case to the DA’s office.
Monday, Feb. 19
10:24 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 10000 block of County Road 26 on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence after a man reported his girlfriend had grabbed him by the neck, scratching him, and had broken a TV in their house by throwing a remote control at the screen. The girlfriend reportedly told deputies the man had hurt her fingers when he grabbed her hand to get it off his neck. She was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail.
Tuesday, Feb. 20
1:51 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of trespassing in the 18000 block of Colorado Highway 145. A man reported his ex-wife had come to his property and gotten into a verbal argument with his current wife about a custody issue. When deputies contacted the wife, she reportedly said the other woman had threatened her, but she did not want to trespass her from the property unless it happened again. No charges were filed.
5:32 p.m.: A woman was remanded into custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., due to a charge of contempt.
Wednesday, Feb. 21
1:24 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 2500 block of East Main Street on suspicion of second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft and driving under restraint after her roommate reported she had taken her vehicle at 6:45 p.m. the previous day.
11:50 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report that a man in the 19000 block of U.S. Highway 491 had failed to register as a sex offender when he was required to on Jan. 18. The man’s last known address reportedly appeared vacant, and the front door was secured with a piece of twine. Deputies were unable to contact the man through his last known phone number. They were granted a warrant for his arrest on the charge of failing to register.
2:38 p.m.: Deputies tried to serve a writ of restitution in the 18000 block of Colorado Highway 145, but no one came to the door.
Friday, Feb. 23
9:24 a.m.: Deputies responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash in the 22000 block of Colorado Highway 184. They helped to extract two people from one vehicle that appeared to have rolled over. Both complained of neck and back pain, and medics were called to treat them. The driver of the other vehicle reportedly refused medical attention. Responding deputies turned over the accident investigation to Colorado State Patrol.
3:30 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
5:17 p.m.: Two men were arrested in the 1700 block of East Seventh Street, Cortez, after deputies responded to a report of an assault. One of the men was arrested on three warrants, two for failure to appear and one for arrest in connection with a crime. The other man was arrested on four warrants for failure to appear.
Saturday, Feb. 24
10:58 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of displaying fictitious number plates, driving without insurance and failing to drive in a designated lane.
12:14 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons in the 2100 block of South Broadway on suspicion of displaying an expired temporary permit and driving without insurance.
1:19 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of assault in the 10000 block of County Road 28.2. A man reported his sister had pushed him several times, leading him to push back. The woman claimed her brother started the fight by spitting on her. The woman reportedly had a bruise on her eye that was not consistent with either party’s description of events. Deputies dismissed the case for lack of evidence.
Sunday, Feb. 25
10:43 a.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for possession of controlled substances and violation of a protection order at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
Monday, Feb. 26
1:03 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a possible theft in the 31000 block of County Road L. A woman claimed she had a verbal agreement with a couple that she would allow them to stay rent-free at a residence, provided they completed repairs. The landlord said she evicted them after a few months for failing to keep up the agreement, and they had taken a lawnmower, trailer, freezer, woodstove and an oak table with a set of chairs. The former tenants claimed some of the items listed as stolen had broken down and some had been given to them. They claimed not to know about the table and chairs, although at least one chair fitting the description was found on the property. Due to uncertainty about whether a crime had occurred, deputies did no file charges against anyone.
