Friday, Feb. 9

2:15 a.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on suspicion of violating a protection order, after police transported him there after finding him unconscious near the intersection of First and South Market Streets, and with a cut on his nose. The man was medically cleared due to severe intoxication.

10:41 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 500 block of East Third Street. A city employee reported that two stop signs, valued at $300 total, had been stolen from the intersection with Harrison Street. The case remains under investigation.

11:56 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of third-degree assault and harassment in Centennial Park, 800 E. Main St., after another woman reported she had kicked her in the forehead and broken her glasses, valued at $300.

4:56 p.m.: Two men were arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., after employees reported they were intoxicated in the area. One man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and violating bond conditions, and the other was arrested on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge. Both were medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

5:09 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 600 block of East Second Street. A woman reported a cell phone, valued at $278.38, and a softball bat, valued at $300, had been stolen from her vehicle sometime that day. The case remains under investigation.

6:29 p.m.: Two women were arrested in the 700 block of South Chestnut Street after police responded to a report of a disturbance. One woman reported her girlfriend hit her and drove away. The girlfriend told police the woman had hit her repeatedly while she was driving in an attempt to get her to stop, causing her to drive into a curb while her infant son was in the car. The girlfriend’s sister, also in the car at the time, reported the first woman had also hit her in the face, causing bruises. The first woman also reportedly had a bruised eye. The first woman was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, third-degree assault, harassment and child abuse. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to the bruising and severe intoxication. The second woman was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, third-degree assault, harassment, a protection order violation, child abuse and driving under restraint.

11:43 p.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on suspicion of violating a protection order after hospital staff reported he had left the emergency room with an IV needle still in his arm. Responding officers found him in a hospital restroom and transported him to the jail after medical personnel took out the IV.

Saturday, Feb. 10

10:27 a.m.: A man was issued a summons at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating bond conditions after the parents of a group of Cub Scouts conducting a food drive at the entrance reported that he was intoxicated in the area.

12:46 p.m.: A woman was arrested in Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of an open container violation and being intoxicated in the roadway after police responded to a report she was yelling at a group of children riding scooters in the park. She had also reportedly stepped into the road, causing a car to swerve to avoid hitting her. She reportedly had a bottle of alcohol in her shirt. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

6:15 p.m.: A man was arrested at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating bond conditions. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication, after telling police he had been drinking Listerine all day.

6:48 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of South Oak Street on a La Plata County warrant for failure to comply on a felony charge after he was pulled over due to a reckless driving complaint.

11:23 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 100 block of West Main Street on suspicion of DUI, failing to display headlights when required and operating a vehicle with defective headlights. The woman reportedly told arresting officers that she was on her way to a casino from Blondie’s Trophy Room. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Sunday, Feb. 11

11:34 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cozy Inn Hotel, 440 S. Broadway, on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report of a disturbance in one of the hotel rooms. His mother reported he had been drinking and yelling at her and her other children. The man was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Monday, Feb. 12

11:54 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

1:12 p.m.: Two men were arrested in the 800 block of South Oak Street after they were pulled over for driving with obscured windows. A small bag of meth was reportedly visible on the floor of the vehicle after it was pulled over. The driver was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to a wrist injury he said he had received a few days before. He was arrested on a Costilla County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge, and on suspicion of driving under restraint and driving with an illegal window tint. A passenger was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. A juvenile passenger in the car was placed in the custody of his mother.

5:41 p.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 200 block of East Seventh Street. A man claimed his sister had damaged his TV, an Xbox and a dresser, and stolen his iPod and a piece of Raiders memorabilia. Responding officers observed that the TV was destroyed, but the Xbox appeared to be functioning normally. The sister reportedly said the TV had been broken during a fight the day before. Officers did not find enough evidence to determine who was at fault, and took no immediate action.

10:25 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of South Mildred Road on suspicion of driving under restraint.

Tuesday, Feb. 13

3:41 a.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.

6:20 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1 block of South Sligo Street on suspicion of DUI and disregarding a traffic light after he was pulled over for running a red light. He reportedly showed signs of being under the influence of marijuana.

Wednesday, Feb. 14

7:26 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at the old Montezuma-Cortez High School building, 206 W. Seventh St. Construction workers reported several power tools, valued at $2,009 total, and an unspecified amount of copper had been stolen after 6:30 p.m. the previous day. A door had been barred, but the bar had been removed. The case remains under investigation.

12:23 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a municipal warrant for failure to appear for arraignment.

Thursday, Feb. 15

9:15 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 40 block of North Ash Street on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

Saturday, Feb. 17

2:18 a.m.: A woman was cited in the 1 block of North Linden Street on suspicion of driving with impaired ability, disobeying a stop sign, displaying an expired license plate, making a left turn from a wrong lane and failing to present proof of insurance.
