Editor:
When reading Catherine Spencers letters, I sometimes have to wonder, which planet is she referring to where these things are happening. This Saturdays Journal (Aug. 8) letter is one such letter. To use the words truth and facts in her letter is an oxymoron. Both parties are guilty of embellishing the truth, untruthful sound bites, and so forth, but the Republicans (i.e. far right) are by far the winners in that field. Ryan took the prize. His lies about Obama and the GM plant that was closing during the Bush era, welfare, Medicare and on and on, were an act of courage, as he must have known his facts would be checked. Romneys pollster said it best: Were not going to let fact checkers run our campaign.
The Republicans (i.e. far right) didnt even mention the men and women (their spouses and dependent children) who are making the sacrifice to protect our country. Why should they? Its the poor and middle class who have been fighting the wars of my generation. I did hear a lot about our military and their families from the Democrats. The vice president has a son who served in Iraq. Even conservative newspapers took Romneys campaign to task for forgetting the bravest of our men and women.
Ms. Spencers letter is a perfect example of what Clinton said about the new Republicans. They have no tolerance for anyone who may think differently than they, will not compromise for the benefit of our country, they are full of hate and they think they are always right.
Gone is the party of great men like Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower. Todays Republicans make Goldwater and Nixon look like slime liberals. Even Nixon passed some of our best environmental protection laws.
The policies and ideas of Romney, Ryan, Rove and all their billionaire supporters are the same as Bushs and will do the same thing to us. For any working man or women to vote for these new Republicans is a vote against yourself.
