This letter is in response to Sandy Lauzon’s letter (Journal, Jan. 30).
At the outset, it is important to note the destruction of the playground was unnecessary and tragic. Period.
The second point I would like to make is that I agree with Sandy that the public meetings as of late have been disruptive. I would like to clarify that this is not because of the public, who had a right to be upset about the non-transparency of their representatives on the intended destruction of the playground, but more to the bullying behavior and unprofessionalism of the contract town attorney, Mike Green. He is rude and dismissive of the public that pays his salary.
In addition, it is important to note that just because a town board trustee is not compensated for his or her service does not automatically imply permission to be incompetent. It is not accurate that a phantom subcommittee of the playground was responsible for the maintenance of this structure.
Grants and formal town documents state clearly that the town was to establish and maintain a maintenance plan for this structure. This was not addressed or established during several terms of service by many board trustees, including Sandy herself.
Elections are coming up in April, and I strongly encourage residents to consider what they would like to see. If an empty field of soggy Kentucky bluegrass is your pleasure, then maintain the status quo, but if you would like something else for this community, get out and vote.
